Our ethical commitment

Durmah aims to help students understand law, manage their study and develop independent judgment. That purpose has to be supported by the way the service actually operates. A good intention or a policy statement is not proof of compliance.

Respect the student

Students choose whether to use Durmah, what to work on and when to stop. Needing help with a topic does not diminish a student's ability. We do not require a student to promote the service, provide course documents or involve family members in their learning.

Keep learning and permission together

Our tutoring approach favours a student's own attempt, questions about their reasoning, and checking primary sources. It does not authorise assessment use. Current programme, module and assessment instructions apply to planning, feedback and editing as well as final answers.

Respect material rights

General concepts can be taught through independently written explanations. Particular teaching resources can have protected expression and licence restrictions. Private access and a student's agreement do not automatically authorise every copy or external processing step. We explain the rights and limits in Responsible study & student rights.

Explain privacy honestly

Account controls separate students' records. Necessary operational access and service providers are described in the privacy policy. Student uploads are not used to create shared university packs. We do not describe cloud processing as device-only or make unverified promises about provider retention or training.

Match claims to available features

Durmah's member workspace is independently available to eligible adult learners. Feature-specific safeguards and availability still apply. The study coach asks diagnostic questions about reasoning the student has already written; its design is not a guarantee that an AI response will always be correct or appropriate. See current service information.

Support wellbeing within clear limits

Practical planning, short resets and routes to human support can complement study. The wellbeing AI conversation is disabled. Durmah is not a therapist, medical service or monitored crisis channel. Students should use their university or appropriate professional support when they need human help.

Be accountable

We identify the sources and review date behind our public legal explanation, distinguish completed controls from outstanding reviews, and provide a route for corrections and material-rights concerns. We make no university-approval, grade-guarantee or universal-compliance claim. Selling study support does not give us permission to reuse someone else's material.
