Academic integrity: the boundary, stated plainly
Read this once in full. It is the part of the manual that protects you.
Durmah's commercial position is unusual and is stated publicly: we do not sell better grades. The product is built on the assumption that you want to be a competent lawyer, not merely a graded one.
What Durmah will do
- Explain doctrine, cases, statutes and principles.
- Interrogate your understanding and tell you where it is thin.
- Analyse what a question is actually asking.
- Check and challenge your structure.
- Name relevant authorities and explain what work each one does.
- Read your own draft and tell you, specifically, what to fix.
- Help you cite correctly using OSCOLA.
- Help you plan revision and manage your academic year.
- Tell you honestly when it does not know.
What Durmah will not do
- Write, draft or rewrite prose for work you will submit.
- Produce a model answer for you to adapt.
- Predict or promise a mark or classification.
- Invent a case, statute, citation, ratio, judge or paragraph reference.
- Present unverified material as grounded guidance.
- Help you evade detection.
- Give legal advice.
Ask Durmah to produce text for you to hand in and it declines, then redirects you to how to do it yourself. Paste a draft into a planning tool and it sends you to Mark My Paper instead. Legal answers that fail internal verification are blocked rather than presented as reliable. Rubric feedback is prevented from expressing itself as a grade. These are product behaviours, not policy statements.
Your obligations, in order
- 1Read your own module's policy. It is authoritative, and Durmah's guidance never overrides it.
- 2Declare what you used, in the form your university requires. The final stage of the assignment workflow includes an AI declaration checkpoint.
- 3Write in your own words. Understanding, restructuring and reformulating an idea is your work. Reproducing generated prose is not.
- 4Verify every citation against your module materials and primary sources before you rely on it.
- 5Keep the reasoning yours. If you cannot explain why an authority supports your point, it does not belong in your answer.
Most UK law schools now require you to declare AI assistance, and many operate a tiered policy. Using Durmah as designed — to understand, structure, test and revise your own thinking — is compatible with every such policy we have seen. Using any tool to produce text you pass off as your own is not, regardless of which tool it is.

The six-stage assignment workflow
Where a piece of assessed work lives from the moment you receive the brief to the moment before you submit — with Durmah as a tutor, not a writer.
Mark My Paper: diagnostic review of your own draft
Give it your draft and it returns structured feedback — what is working, what is weak, what to fix first, and how to spend your next two hours.
What Durmah is, and what it is not
Durmah is a structured study workspace for UK law students. It turns lectures, briefs, drafts and deadlines into one connected workflow — and it will not write your assessed work for you.
Still stuck?
Ask Durmah — it knows this manual and can point you to the right section. If the manual itself is wrong, out of date or unclear, tell us and we will fix it. Documentation errors are treated as product bugs.
Durmah is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any university. Everything in this manual describes study support for legal education. It is not legal advice. Where this manual and your module handbook disagree, your module handbook is authoritative.
