Student Content Policy
This policy applies to files, recordings, notes, prompts and other material you share with Durmah.
Individual study support and model training
Your study material is for your learning. Durmah's product rule is to process permitted material for the individual student's requested study assistance and the necessary service operations described in our privacy policy. That permission does not include using the material to train or fine-tune AI models, build shared model-improvement datasets, or provide another student's answers.
Generating a response from your prompt and permitted material is called inference. It is different from training or fine-tuning a model. The AI may use its existing knowledge and authorised reference sources to help explain your material; it is not limited to repeating your document. Another student's private work must not supply your answer.
This requirement applies to Durmah and its AI providers. Before release, provider contracts and settings must be reviewed for this restricted use of student inputs, outputs and derived content. These reviews are incomplete, so external AI and new academic uploads remain paused. No training is different from no storage or no operational access. Ownership and rights
You retain the rights you hold in your own content. Uploading material does not transfer ownership of someone else's lecture, question paper, slides, book extract or other protected material to you or to Durmah.
Students can study legal concepts and create their own explanations. Copyright protects expression rather than ideas alone. Original notes can still contain third-party extracts, so describing a file as “my notes” does not resolve every right in it. See our sourced explanation of student rights.
Permission before upload
New academic uploads are currently paused. When released, an upload must use a current task and the authenticated owner’s storage path. Material owned by someone else requires a reviewed record of permission or licence for that specific task. A declaration alone does not establish those rights.
You must have permission both to share the material with Durmah and to have it processed by the external providers used for the feature. Access to a university learning platform or permission to record for personal study does not itself establish permission for external AI processing.
This is Durmah's current upload policy. Applicable copyright exceptions can permit some uses without the owner's permission, but we have not enabled a route that automatically approves uploads on that basis. Our policy does not remove a student's statutory rights or declare all unlicensed private study unlawful.
- Do not upload assessed work, restricted teaching materials or confidential information.
- Do not upload lecture recordings, transcripts or slides without the necessary rights and institutional permission.
- Do not upload identifiable information about other people or client matters.
- If permission is uncertain, do not upload. Ask the rights holder or your institution first.
Processing and account access
To the extent you hold the necessary rights, you give Durmah a non-exclusive permission to store, reproduce and process your submitted content only as needed for the feature you request and its necessary support, security and administration, as described in the privacy policy. This does not transfer ownership or give us rights you do not hold. It is not permission to publish or sell your academic material, build shared course packs, train or fine-tune models, create shared training or evaluation datasets, or use your private material to answer another student.
Account controls separate student records, but external providers and authorised operational staff may process them. Provider-specific retention and training settings remain under review; this limited permission is not a claim that every provider configuration has been verified. This is not a confidential university submission channel.
Student uploads are not used to build shared university packs. Use the account privacy controls to request deletion of your personal study records.
Use the minimum context
Prefer your own description of a topic or difficulty to a whole course document. A summary request still needs a lawful basis for the input processing; not publishing the result does not by itself settle copyright. Read practical examples of material use.
The AI use limits apply to every upload and prompt.
